| 29181 | Anderton Lift | Anderton Lift (River Weaver) | Anderton Lift (Trent and Mersey) | 03 January 2025 | 18 June 2027 | Earlier this year, the Anderton Boat Lift was closed after a lifting wire failure during planned routine maintenance by our teams. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reopen the lift using the existing gate lifting system. Trust engineers have been working closely with specialist consultants to develop a solution that will see the original rope-and-pulley mechanism replaced on all gates with a more modern, robust and safer lifting system making the lift more reliable.
We're pleased to confirm that the Trust has prioritised the funding required to support the detailed engineering design. However, this work will take time, and the lift will remain closed throughout all next year 2026. We understand how frustrating this closure will be for boaters who regularly use this vital link between the Weaver Navigation and the rest of the Trust's network. The significant investment we're making into this repair reflects how important the lift is to our waterways. Although the lift itself will stay closed, the Anderton Boat Lift Visitor Centre will remain open, with an exciting programme of events and activities planned for 2026. We hope you'll continue to visit and enjoy everything the site has to offer.
This essential redesign work is being delivered ahead of, and separately from, the wider refurbishment programme. We'll continue to share updates as the project progresses.
We also understand the impact that Marsh Lock's closure is having on customers wanting to visit the Weaver. Our teams are working through the options to bring the lock back into operation, and you can follow updates [here.](
Thank you for your ongoing patience and support for this vital and historic structure. | 18 Jun 26 18:10:59 |

| 29735 | Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Main Line) | Grindley Brook Bottom Lock No 14 | Whitchurch Ring Road Bridge No 31A | 22 December 2025 | 29 June 2027 | Our contractors has now completed the removal of approximately 4,000 tonnes of sand and has re-graded the previously flooded field. The buried culvert has been successfully cleared and is now flowing.
Current works are focused on excavating the remaining embankment back to the original breach profile. Material is being carefully removed using tracked excavators and dumpers, with stockpiles being created on site before removal for off-site reuse.
Preparation is underway to commence reconstruction of the embankment. This will involve backfilling in layers, incorporating geogrid reinforcement to improve structural strength. Wherever possible, material recovered from the site will be reused in the rebuild. Due to the constrained nature of the site, with a single access point, operations are being carried out as efficiently as possible using specialist plant.
Water continues to be managed by pumping around the breach. An alternative flume solution was investigated; however, this has not been progressed due to limited space on site.
A reminder that an FAQ page has been created for boaters and can be accessed [here]( . We will continue to provide updates as work progresses. | 29 Jun 26 15:00:03 |

| 29984 | Lee and Stort Navigation (River Lee) | Ware Lock No 2 | Ware Lock No 2 | 21 January 2026 | 25 June 2027 | The current navigation closure will remain in place until 10 July. The EA are actively developing a controlled plan to allow limited boat movements during this period. This will be a controlled opening to enable movement for approximately 13 boats that need to travel downstream.
Following this initial phase the EA will review the condition of the lock gates to assess the effectiveness of the controlled openings and determine if some form of assisted passage can be offered.
They appreciate your patience and cooperation whilst they manage this situation safely.
Further updates will be provided as plans progress and we get given the detail by the EA. | 25 Jun 26 10:00:03 |

| 31250 | River Avon - Warwickshire (Lower Avon Navigation) | Nafford Lock | Nafford Lock | 13 April 2026 | 04 July 2026 | The Trust identified that Nafford Lock would not survive another season and therefore would require a full dewater and refurbishment. This assessment has been proved to be correct.
The Trust closed the lock on Monday 13th April 2026. As soon as we could following the winter floods.
From our records the last time that this lock was dewatered was in 1985 (41 years ago). | 29 May 26 18:02:14 |

| 30901 | Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Liverpool Link) | Regent Road Bascule Bridge No BB | Mann Island Basin | 23 April 2026 | 26 June 2027 | The Liverpool Link remains closed to navigation following the identification of a suspected blue-green algae bloom in Princes Dock.
Additional water samples have been taken, and we are currently awaiting the results of laboratory testing.
As a precaution, steps are being taken to prevent any potential spread of algae into the South Docks while the situation is assessed. The Trust is working closely with the dock owner, Peel, to manage the incident and prevent further spread. At this time, the situation remains unchanged.
A further update will be provided on 10 July. | 26 Jun 26 14:00:05 |
|
| 30524 | Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Stanley Dock Branch) | Stanley Bottom Lock No 4 | Mann Island Basin | 15 May 2026 | 05 July 2026 | The Liverpool Link will be temporarily closed from 15 May to 5 July while Peel carries out essential construction and maintenance works in the Central Docks.
We have worked to keep disruption to a minimum; however, as our rights are limited to permitting our customers to travel through Peel's property, the owners are able to close this section at any time to carry out necessary repairs and maintenance. The Trust has very limited control over access to this area and has not been able to prevent this closure.
During this time, access to Albert Dock and Salthouse Dock will only be possible via Brunswick Lock, which can be booked directly through Liverpool Marina. This route requires a crossing from Ellesmere Port via the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey.
We understand this may affect your plans, and we're working closely with Peel to keep disruption to a minimum. If you already have a booking during the closure period, our team will have been in contact to talk through any changes and help make alternative arrangements where needed.
Outside of these dates, Liverpool Link passages and moorings into Salthouse Dock will continue as normal.
If you'd like to make a new booking or discuss an existing one, our North West Customer Service Team will be happy to help on 0303 0404 040.
We are sorry for any disruption caused to your boating plans during this closure. | 06 Apr 26 12:54:31 |

| 31255 | Huddersfield Narrow Canal | Stanley Dawson Lock No 1E | Booth Lock No 31E | 15 June 2026 | 18 June 2027 | Works taking place at Slaithwaite Reservoir have necessitated a drawdown of reservoir levels that has been ongoing for several months. With recent warm, dry weather and an increase in boat movement on the canal, we have insufficient water resources to maintain navigation for the long term on the lower section of the canal.
From Monday 15th June 2026 navigation between Lock 1E and Lock 31E will close with these locks being padlocked closed.
Whilst the closure is in effect passage will only be possible between Standedge Tunnel and Lock 31E. Anyone looking to transit through Standedge Tunnel from Diggle in the Northwest will only be permitted to do so with a return tunnel booking. Boats will be able to turn in the winding hole above Lock 31E.

| 30914 | Gloucester and Sharpness Canal | Gloucester Dock Lock | Gloucester Dock Lock | 29 June 2026 | 10 July 2026 | Please be advised that essential maintenance works are required at Gloucester Lock 2, including the re‑installation of stop plank channels, repairs to the west dockside ground paddle, and associated surveys within the lock.
These works were originally planned for November 2025 but could not proceed due to insufficient water depths across the dock, which prevented safe access.
The works were later provisionally rescheduled for the post‑Christmas stoppage period but were again unable to proceed due to river flood conditions, preventing safe access and working at the river entrance to the lock.
A revised planned closure is now scheduled from 29th June to 10th July 2026.
During this period, Gloucester Lock 2 and its approaches will be closed between 09:00 and 16:00 on weekdays.
Passage through the lock will be available outside of these hours, including during the weekend within the stoppage.

| 31632 | Shropshire Union Canal (Montgomery Canal - isolated navigable section) | Bank Lock No 12 | Byles Lock No 22 | 01 July 2026 | 01 July 2027 | Following a recent drop in water levels on the Montgomery Canal, we are taking action to restore levels to normal as quickly as possible. To safeguard water resources , all lock use between Byles Lock and Bank Lock is suspended until further notice.
New fish screens have recently been installed at the Penarth feeder to comply with Natural Resources Wales regulations. While the works temporarily affected water levels, a combination of dry weather and low river levels before installation also contributed to the current situation.
We are clearing the new screens daily and have temporarily closed locks on the canal. An unauthorised water transfer through locks upstream of Welshpool unfortunately significantly reduced water levels further, increasing the risk of damage to the canal. The locks will remain closed while levels recover.
As part of the fish screen works, a recent dredging programme has improved water abstraction at the feeder, which will help support water levels in the canal over the longer term. Subject to weather conditions and any ongoing drought impacts, we expect water levels to return to normal within the next two weeks.
We apologise for the temporary impact on navigation, but these measures are necessary to protect the canal while recovery takes place. We will continue to provide updates and look forward to reopening the locks. | 02 Jul 26 13:07:56 |

| 30733 | Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Stourport Basins: Broad Route) | Stourport Lower Broad Lock | Stourport Lower Broad Lock | 07 September 2026 | 19 October 2026 | We apologise for the need to schedule an in‑season stoppage on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal.
We're carrying out essential improvement works at Bottom Barge Lock, including the replacement of the top gates and coping stone repairs. To complete this work safely, a stoppage will be in place from 7 September to 19 October 2026
These works were originally planned for the recent Intensive Maintenance Period but had to be deferred. During our final preparations, we identified on‑site conditions that meant the works could not be carried out safely or without causing disruption to moored craft at that time. Following local consultation, it has been agreed that this is the preferred time to undertake these essential works.
During the stoppage, the narrow lock between the Severn and the canal will remain open, and boats up to 2.1 metres in width will still be able to move between the basin and the river. Only wider craft will be restricted from passing through the site during this period.
We appreciate your understanding and patience while these improvements take place. | 06 Apr 26 12:54:36 |
