[Deepdale railway station] Deepdale railway station (also known as Deepdale Bridge station) was on the Longridge Branch Line in Preston, Lancashire, England. The station opened [Deepdale] Deepdale is a football stadium in the Deepdale area of Preston, England, the home of Preston North End F.C. Deepdale is "widely recognised as being the [River Wharfe] until it reaches Gill Beck and returns southward. To the north of Bolton Bridge, the river narrows and goes over waterfalls in an area known as The Strid [Deepdale Street railway station] services were diverted to a new line via Deepdale Bridge and Miley Tunnel to a new terminus at Maudland Bridge. Deepdale Street was closed to passengers but [Preston North End F.C.] football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness [Tay Bridge disaster] The Tay Bridge Disaster occurred during a violent storm on Sunday 28 December 1879, when the first Tay Rail Bridge collapsed as a train from Burntisland [Deepdale, County Durham] once crossed by the Deepdale Viaduct, 2 miles (3 km) west of Barnard Castle. The viaduct was designed by Thomas Bouch (of the Tay Bridge disaster fame) and [Preston and Longridge Railway] with new stations at each end, at Deepdale Bridge on Deepdale Road and at Maudland Bridge. The original Deepdale Street terminus was closed to passengers [Nigel Greenwood (footballer)] himself being used no less than 17 times that season scoring 5 goals as the Deepdale club were relegated to the league's basement division for the first time [List of crossings of the River Wharfe] Oughtershaw Beck to the confluence with the River Ouse.
