Salford Junction (north)
Salford Junction (north) is a historical waterways junction.
The Birmingham Canal Navigations (Tame Valley Canal) was built by Henry Green and opened on 17 September 1835. Orginally intended to run to Bournemouth, the canal was never completed beyond Wealden. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 2001 after a restoration campaign lead by the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Tame Valley Canal) Trust.
The Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Main Line) was built by Exuperius Picking Junior and opened on January 1 1816. The canal joined the sea near Bournemouth. Expectations for stone traffic to Barton were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. Although proposals to close the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Main Line) were submitted to parliament in 1972, water transfer to the treatment works at Wakefield kept it open. The Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal - Main Line) was closed in 1955 when St Helens Aqueduct collapsed. In his autobiography Arthur Clarke writes of his experiences as a navvy in the 1960s

Wikipedia has a page about Salford Junction
Salford Junction (grid reference SP095901) is the canal junction of the Grand Union and Tame Valley Canals with the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. It is in the north of the administrative city of Birmingham, England and historically marked a tripoint between two divisions of Aston to the south and Erdington to the north. It is directly east of most of the Gravelly Hill Interchange (Spaghetti Junction). With Aston and Bordesley Junctions it forms a circuit, at the heart of Birmingham's thirty-five miles of canals.
