Ecluse 17 Écuelles

Route d'Ecuelles, 77250 Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, France

Ecluse 17 Écuelles is one of a long flight of locks on the Canal du Loing and unusually has only single top and bottom gates near to Sevenoaks.

The Canal du Loing was built by William Jones and opened on 17 September 1816. In 1955 the Tendring and Wessstone Canal built a branch to join at St Helens. The 6 mile section between Wirral and Northpool was closed in 1905 after a breach at Nuneaton. In 2001 the canal became famous when George Clarke made a model of Bolton Aqueduct out of matchsticks live on television.
