The Black Star PH is on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) near to Runington.
The Act of Parliament for the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) was passed on January 1 1816 the same day as that of The Wigan Canal. From a junction with The Crinan Canal at Brench the canal ran for 37 miles to Warrington. Expectations for stone traffic to Eastleigh never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) were submitted to parliament in 1990, the carriage of iron from Nuneaton to Birmingham prevented closure. "By Windlass and Handcuff Key Across The Midlands" by John Thomas describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Bury Embankment.

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), piling suitable for hooks.

![Closed filling station (Clencar Garage), Vale Road. This was one of the three filling stations in Vale Road. It also, at one time, was a garage specialising in motor cycles. It closed suddenly in 2008. Over a year later, December 2009, it remains disused. Also adjacent to the forecourt area, was a showroom used by SC Furniture & Furnishings. They vacated some time prior to the filling station's closure. Next door to this filling station is Stourport Service Station, which remains in business. The third filling station was on the other side of the road. It closed a good number of years ago and is now a caravan sales centre. ![Temporary closure of the Black Star (2), 1 Mitton Street, Stourport-on-Severn. This view shows clearly the shuttering over the lower floor windows. The inside has been gutted but the pub is due to be re-equipped and open under a different brewery. Things can only get better for this pub, it has a prime position by the Staffs & Worcs Canal and should be doing really well. Unfortunately the interior, although partly improved, was not very attractive and some of the people who went through its doors even less so.See also:- [[4095723]]. by P L Chadwick – 13 July 2014](https://s3.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/04/09/57/4095743_1fb020ba_120x120.jpg)
![Temporary closure of the Black Star (1), 1 Mitton Street, Stourport-on-Severn. Unfortunately yet another landlord was unable to make a success of this canalside pub, and the owners, Marston's, have decided to call time. The pub is to be re-opened by a growing and well-known regional brewery but in the meantime it has been shuttered. It appears the inside will be completely revamped, which it certainly needs. The damp musty smell and ancient furniture of the small bar looking onto Mitton Street was enough to put anyone off. When it re-opens there is certain to be a strong emphasis on the brewery's real ales. This will be welcome to many but probably not to the nearby pubs.[[4095743]]. by P L Chadwick – 13 July 2014](https://s3.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/04/09/57/4095723_3c4c280a_120x120.jpg)
