Friars Mill Visitor Moorings

Mooring here is excellent (this is a really good mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 2 days. This secure and flood-safe mooring on a pontoon (on opposite side to the towpath) now has two water points, also four electricity points (apparently not operational). No waste disposal found. There is room for several boats.
Facilities: water point and electric hook up.

Friars' Mill, also know as Donisthorpe's Mill after the textile company that operated there, was one of Leicester's oldest factory buildings, built in the late 18th century on the site of the Black Friars' priory. The site includes associated mill workers' cottages, together with a Victorian pumping house.
After being vacated in 2005, it was acquired by developers who failed to respect its listed status. It was ravaged by fire in 2012, before being acquired by the council and redeveloped as small business units and associated facilities.
The Visitor's Mooring, opened in 2016 as part of the redevelopment has secure, flood-safe space for 4 boats. C&RT gate locks have been removed so there is no access out of office hours, i.e. Evenings and weekends. Info provided by local Lock-Keeper Rob H.
Edited May 2021 by visiting boater~ There is now a CRT padlock on the exterior pedestrian gate so the site can be accessed 24/7 with a BW watermate key. There is a convenience store opposite the entrance. There is no power to the bollards and the showers and bins are for tenants only, but the water taps are working. Beware! When it is wet the decking on the pontoon is extremely slippy.
