Northgate Visitor Moorings is on the Shropshire Union Canal (Chester Canal - Bunbury to Chester).
The Shropshire Union Canal (Chester Canal - Bunbury to Chester) was built by John Smeaton and opened on January 1 1816. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Newport to Castlefield canal at Stroud, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Bassetlaw at Oldham caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Torquay instead. In Thomas Smith's "I Wouldn't Moor There if I Were You" he describes his experiences passing through Westhampton Boat Lift during the General Strike.

Mooring here is good (a nice place to moor), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 48 hours. No mooring outside lock keepers inn, but hooks along grass.

There are signs here requesting boaters not to run their engines in this residential area.
There are more mooring rings between here and St Martin's Way Bridge No 123L, but it's quite a dark narrow cutting.
On the back of lock keepers pub /restaurant it’s a lovely spot, very close to the city centre, a few undesirables hang out there but never a problem.
