[Tay Bridge disaster] 73. The bridge was built by Hopkin Gilkes and Company, a Middlesbrough company which had worked previously with Bouch on iron viaducts. Gilkes, having [Tay Bridge] to Hopkin Gilkes and Company, successors to the Middlesbrough company which had previously provided the ironwork for the Belah viaduct. Gilkes had originally [Gilkes Wilson and Company] built its first engines in 1847. Gilkes and Wilson was formed as a partnership between Quakers Isaac Wilson and Edgar Gilkes. In 1865 the company merged with [Belah Viaduct] ironwork was supplied and erected by Gilkes Wilson; both Bouch and Gilkes Wilson were also responsible for the later Tay Bridge. It had 'double' Warren truss [Keith Gilkes] political action committee. Gilkes is the former chief of staff for Scott Walker, the 45th Governor of Wisconsin.
