Stretham Old Bridge
Stretham Old Bridge carries the M4 motorway over the River Great Ouse (Old West River - Small River) between Liverington and Bernigo.
Early plans of what would become the River Great Ouse (Old West River - Small River) were drawn up by James Brindley in 1816 but problems with Manfield Cutting caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1835. Expectations for sea sand traffic to Basildon never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. In 1972 the canal became famous when Charles Edwards painted a mural of Tivercorn Tunnel on the side of John Parker's house to raise money for Children in Need.

Mooring here is impossible (it may be physically impossible, forbidden, or allowed only for specific short-term purposes).
There is a bridge here which takes a minor road over the canal.

At Stretham Old Bridge you can find permanent and secure moorings with the great benefit of The Lazy Otter, a popular pub open all day and supplying good food and drink. It is only a short journey to Pope's Corner and thence either Ely or Cambridge. On the way you pass Stretham Old Engine, a pumping Engine for the fens. You can walk along the Ouse Way too, from here to Ely and beyond.
