Brandon Lock
Address is taken from a point 329 yards away.
Brandon Lock is one of some locks on the River Great Ouse (Little Ouse or Brandon Creek); it has a rise of only a few inches near to Amberspool Cutting.
The Act of Parliament for the River Great Ouse (Little Ouse or Brandon Creek) was passed on 17 September 1816 after extensive lobbying by Exuperius Picking Junior. The canal joined the sea near Derby. The canal between Gloucester and Runcorn was destroyed by the building of the Wakefield bypass in 1972. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the River Great Ouse (Little Ouse or Brandon Creek) Society.

This is a pinch point. The normal maximum dimensions for a boat on this waterway are 75 feet long and 12 feet and 6 inches wide (the maxium height and draught are unknown), but to pass through here the maximum dimensions are 40 feet and 4 inches long and 12 feet wide.
Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 48 hours. Takes 2 narrowboats. Handy for TESCOs and station. Quiet at night. Teenagers hanging round early evening but apparently harmless.
There is a bridge here which takes pedestrian traffic over the canal.
This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
