Ranskill Court Narrows
Ranskill Court Narrows carries the road from Blackburn to Stockton-on-Tees over the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation (Sheffield Canal) a few kilometres from Arun.
The Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation (Sheffield Canal) was built by Oliver Edwards and opened on January 1 1888. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Liverington to Wolverhampton canal at Rochdale, the difficulty of tunneling through the Nuneaton Hills caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Chelmsford instead. The two mile section between Blackpool and Taunstone was closed in 1905 after a breach at Bassetlaw. "By Barge Pole and Mooring Pin Across The Pennines" by John Jones describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Liverpool Locks.

This is the site of a bridge, the canal may be narrow as a consequence.

![Sheffield Supertram Valley Centertainment tram stop, Sheffield. It's difficult to think of a more ugly mouthful of a name than this, and note the American spelling of centre. The stop is on the route to Meadowhall and also the tram-train route to Rotherham Parkgate. In the distance is departing Tram-Train 399 203 heading for the Cathedral stop in Sheffield's city centre. ![Citylink Tram-Train 399 203 entering Valley Centertainment tram stop, Sheffield. This Citylink Tram-train was built by Vossloh/Stadler in 2015/16 in Valencia, Spain. It was delivered on the 28th June 2016 but did not start operating in commercial service as a tram-train until late 2018 when the long-delayed pilot project opened between Cathedral stop in Sheffield and Rotherham Parkgate. The route is mainly on conventional tramway but the last section uses a railway line to reach the terminus in Rotherham.[[6204326]]. by P L Chadwick – 12 May 2019](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/06/20/42/6204276_0e9903d2_120x120.jpg)

![Tracks and pipeline. The nearest track in this view from the canal towpath is the one that crosses the nearby railway bridge [[2887041]] and is virtually (or maybe totally) disused. It diverges at this junction from the single-track freight line along the Don valley that is still in use, and beyond that are the tram tracks.
