After the bridge, the King's Fishpool, a swamp created by the Normans' damming [Derwent Valley Light Railway] nationalised, remaining as a private operation all its life. It ran between Layerthorpe on the outskirts of York to Cliffe Common near Selby. It opened in two [Foss Islands branch line] with the new Derwent Valley Light Railway's northern terminus at York (Layerthorpe) railway station when it opened in 1913. After the DVLR closed in 1981 [William Hayes (photographer)] other photographs are of farm workers around Hutton-le-Hole.
