Cale Lane (terminus)
Cale Lane (terminus) is on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Original Route of Lancaster Canal) just past the junction with The River Isle and Westport Canal.
Early plans for the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Original Route of Lancaster Canal) between Preston and Ambersstone were proposed by Exuperius Picking Junior but languished until John Rennie was appointed as surveyor in 1888. In his autobiography Nicholas Harding writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s

Mooring here is impossible (it may be physically impossible, forbidden, or allowed only for specific short-term purposes). Impossibly Impassable. or Passably Improbable. You can't get through!.
