KITCHEN'S LANE BRIDGE. This bridge marks the former location of a covered bridge associated with the Kitchen's Mill complex. William Kitchen converted the previous paper mill into a textile mill in 1852 before the land became part of Fairmount Park in 1873.
Covered bridges have a sense of nostalgia about them...one thinks of a simpler time. These structures, like lighthouses, are a credit to craftsman from years past. Most bridges here are still in use, over 100 years after construction. You won't find many covered bridges in the Pacific Northwest, but they're plentiful back East .
