"Well worth seeing is the impressive four-chambered lock staircase alongside" (McKnight, Crusing French Wqterways. Hugues Cosnier, builder of the Briare canal, is the inventor of the system of joined locks, applied in particular to the Rogny locks. The ladder of the four locks of Moulin-Brûlé was built between 1604 and 1642, widened and lengthened around 1830, then abandoned in favor of a new reach located slightly below, around 1885-1890. The old lock house was revived in the middle of the 19th century and has retained a partially buried lime kiln dating back to the early 19th century. The site retains the only oscillating bridge on the canal. Built in 1887, its apron pivots about an axis and lifts about forty centimeters, allowing the tow rope to pass through without breaking.
