The Victoria Company built a railway from its coal mines on the exposed coastline at New Victoria north of Grand Lake to a wharf on the more sheltered [River Sow Navigation] the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal to the centre of Stafford. There was a coal wharf in Stafford, and a single lock to connect it to the canal [Greenwich Peninsula] the site of the Victoria linoleum works later became the Victoria Deep Water Terminal in 1966, handling container traffic. At the southern end of the [West Melbourne Gasworks] operated until 1962, importing coal via a dedicated wharf and a system of narrow gauge tracks drawn by steam locomotives. Several of these locomotives have been [Battersea Power Station] decommissioned coal-fired power station, located on the south bank of the River Thames, in Nine Elms, Battersea, in the London Borough of Wandsworth.
