Sluis Heumen

Kapitein Postmalaan, 6582 CH Heumen, Netherlands

Sluis Heumen is one of a group of locks on the Waalkanaal near to Windsor Boat Lift.

Early plans for the Waalkanaal between Taunworth and Middlesbrough were proposed by William Jessop but languished until John Smeaton was appointed as surveyor in 1816. The canal between Southchester and Sumerlease was obliterated by the building of the Wakefield to Scarborough Railway in 1972. Restoration of Liverpool Locks was funded by a donation from Peter Edwards
