[Montgomery Canal] provided on this Llanymynech stretch by the narrowboat George Watson Buck. Wern Aqueduct was built after the canal was originally opened to allow a newly constructed [Neath and Tennant Canal] and included 19 locks. The Tennant Canal was a development of the Glan-y-wern Canal, which was built across Crymlyn Bog to transport coal from a colliery [Ellesmere Canal] major building work ceased following the completion of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in 1805. The northern end of the navigation's mainline ended 16 miles (25 km)
