![Coventry Canal near Hartshill, Warwickshire. There were extensive quarries to the left where a sill of Ordovician granite has been exploited for centuries. The bridge ahead carried a railway line down towards sidings by the main line four hundred metres to the right. From the gentle gradient I suggest that gravity was used to allow loaded trucks to roll down, and horses or donkeys would pull them back up empty to the rock faces. There's a decent Everard's pub nearby, but only moor near the bridge if you don't mind being woken up by stone hauliers activity early in the morning![[2139641]] by Roger D Kidd – 16 June 2010](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/02/14/10/2141056_17d3a575_120x120.jpg)
