There are boatyards at Stratford-upon-Avon, Welford-on-Avon [Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal] Union Canal terminates and meets the canal. Aldersley Junction: the bottom lock of the Wolverhampton flight of the BCN Main Line is visible through the roving [River Severn] to enable seagoing boats to reach as far as Stourport. The most northerly lock is at Lincombe, about 1 mile (1.6 km) downstream from Stourport. The top lock has a rise of eleven feet, unusually high for a single lock. This lock was built to replace an experimental [Worcester and Birmingham Canal] in Worcester, as an 'offshoot' of the River Severn (just after the river lock) and ends in Gas Street Basin in Birmingham. It is 29 miles (47 km) long [Tardebigge Engine House] Worcestershire, England. It is grade II listed. It stands near lock 57 (one lock below the top lock, 58) of the Tardebigge Locks on the Worcester and Birmingham [Halesowen Abbey] relative of the powerful Worcestershire landowner Sir John Russell of Strensham. It seems, however, that this was the end of major hostilities: there [Droitwich Canal] opened in 1771 linking Droitwich Spa to the River Severn at Hawford Bottom Lock, Claines. The Droitwich Junction Canal is a narrow canal, opened in 1854 [Cotswold Line] walls where travellers could rest if they arrived after the gates were locked. The Eagle Ironworks of William Lucy & Co. was near the first road bridge
