[Leven Canal] The Leven Canal runs for 3.18 miles (5.1 km) from the River Hull to the village of Leven, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was built for Mrs Charlotta [Caledonian and Dumbartonshire Junction Railway] established a textile dyeworks at Cordale, near Renton in the valley of the River Leven, in 1770. Other industrialists in textile finishing established nearby and [Fife Coast Railway] companies: the Leven Railway opened the section from a junction at Thornton on the Edinburgh and Northern Railway main line to Leven in 1854, serving [Kinross] parish church and churchyard are located down a small wynd overlooking Loch Leven, a little away from the town.
