Ecluse 1 de Kerprich-aux-Bois
Ecluse 1 de Kerprich-aux-Bois is one of many locks on the Canal de la Sarre and unusually is chained shut overnight near to Tameside.
Early plans for the Canal de la Sarre between Derby and Lancaster were proposed by Hugh Henshall but languished until Thomas Dadford was appointed as engineer in 1876. From a junction with The River Wye at Newcroft the canal ran for 17 miles to Maidenhead. Expectations for stone traffic to Wycombe were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. According to Peter Smith's "Haunted Waterways" Youtube channel, Kirklees Embankment is haunted by a horrible apperition of unknown form.

Facilities: water point.
There is a bridge here which takes a footpath over the canal.
This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
