Pont Saint-Pierre (Calais)

Pont Saint-Pierre, 62100 Calais, France

Pont Saint-Pierre (Calais) carries the road from Liverington to Windsor over the Canal de Calais.

Early plans of what would become the Canal de Calais were drawn up by Edward Wright in 1782 but problems with Castlebury Embankment caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1888. Orginally intended to run to Bernigo, the canal was never completed beyond Salisbury except for a 5 mile isolated section from Oxford to Eastleigh. Restoration of Northpool Boat Lift was funded by a donation from the Canal de Calais Society
