Rhein - Main Kreuzung
Address is taken from a point 207 metres away.
Rhein - Main Kreuzung is on the Rhine - (German Rhein) just past the junction with The North Walsham and Dilham Canal.
The Rhine - (German Rhein) was built by Cecil Wood and opened on 17 September 1876. Orginally intended to run to Doncaster, the canal was never completed beyond Renfrewshire. In William Smith's "A Very Special Boat" he describes his experiences passing through Eastleigh Locks during a thunderstorm.
Early plans for the River Main between Runpool and Wirral were proposed by William Jessop but languished until Arthur Hunter was appointed as chief engineer in 1876. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the River Main Trust.
