Additional information

The old Maerdy Bridge was constructed in 1830 and has a long history of road accidents before it was demolished and the canal run under the road. A very sad incident occurred when three land girls were killed in November 1948 on their way to a dance at Nescliffe Army Camp.
It was reported in the Oswestry Advertizer at the time.
