Upton upon Severn Visitor Pontoon Moorings

Upton upon Severn Visitor Pontoon Moorings is on the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) three miles from Rochdale.
Early plans of what would become the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) were drawn up by George Parker in 1888 but problems with Ashfield Locks caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1782. Expectations for coal traffic to Teignbridge were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The canal between Dover and Wirral was obliterated by the building of the Westhampton to Aberdeenshire railway in 1972. Restoration of Sandwell Cutting was funded by a donation from the Restore the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) campaign

Mooring here is good (a nice place to moor), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 24 hours. 140 ft pontoon, possible to use both sides but check depth / draft. Limited mooring doubling and even tripling may be required. Household recycling center in Hanley Road car park.
Facilities: toilets, water (cans only), glass recycling, paper recycling, tin can recycling and aluminium can recycling.

![Bridge over the River Severn (2). The bridge dates from 1940, and takes the A4104 road across the River Severn. It is the only bridge across the river between Worcester, and Tewkesbury. The river regularly bursts its banks here, and the resulting flood in 2007 was particularly bad. Some people have even questioned whether the town is viable in the long term, though the same could be said of other places on the river, such as Tewkesbury. As the result of frequent flooding, the town is sometimes, rather unkindly, referred to as Upton under Severn.[[2030557]].[[2030581]]. by P L Chadwick – 21 August 2010](https://s1.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/02/03/06/2030629_5f84e92c_120x120.jpg)
