[Port of Hull] Town Docks. The first was The Dock (1778), (or The Old Dock, known as Queen's Dock after 1855), followed by Humber Dock (1809) and Junction Dock (1829) [Newport Docks] have the largest extent of water in any dock in the world. The Town Dock has been filled in, but the Alexandra Dock system is still in use, although the [Swansea docks] Wales Dock, the first on the east side of the river. The land earmarked [Port of Grimsby] westwards, and renamed Alexandra Dock, being connected to the Royal Dock system by a short canal, named the Union Dock. From the 1880s the dock's focus was coal [Port of Immingham] Royal Dock, and north of Alexandra Dock, on the banks of the Humber; this development was passed in 1901 as the Humber Commercial Railway and Dock Act. [Manchester docks] and opened in the early years of the 20th century. Dock 8 remains largely intact, although its entrance to the ship canal has been made considerably narrower [Cardiff Bay Barrage] Bae Caerdydd) lies across the mouth of Cardiff Bay, Wales between Queen Alexandra Dock and Penarth Head.
