![Replica toll house, Smethwick Locks. The toll house, a replica of the ones found on the toll islands on the Birmingham Canal Navigations' New Main Line (none of which have survived), stands by the top lock at Smethwick. The old toll office here was rectangular, rather than octagonal, and stood between what were then duplicated locks. This website has some archive pictures of Smethwick Locks featuring an industrial landscape completely unrecognisable today: https://captainahabswaterytales.blogspot.com/2020/05/smethwick-summits.html. The toll house itself has been subject to vandalism and was at one time burnt out but has been restored since, see [[6263590]] for a view taken in 2019. by Stephen McKay – 13 July 2025](https://s2.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/08/10/08/8100878_c27cd799_120x120.jpg)
