Navigational Notes

The junction is too tight for long boats, cruising in the direction of Llangollen, to turn into, so they should continue to the winding-hole just before Bridge 31A and wind there. Boats coming out of the arm should also wind at the winding-hole if cruising to Wrenbury. See picture 2.

I just managed to turn our 58ft boat coming out of the arm towards Hurleston - counter was in the bushes.

Whitchurch was also the junction for the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway or Chester to Whitchurch branch line, another part of [Whitchurch Waterway Trust] Canal at Hurleston Junction, and was opened throughout by 1805. The canal company decided to abandon the planned arm to Whitchurch in 1800, but in 1805 [Whitchurch, Hampshire] Whitchurch is a small town in Hampshire, England. It is on the River Test, 13 miles (21 km) south of Newbury, Berkshire, 12 miles (19 km) north of Winchester [Frankton Junction] the other was the Llanymynech Branch, which left the Chester Canal at Hurleston Junction, and passed through Whitchurch, Ellesmere and Frankton to reach [Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway] crossing on part of the disused near Whitchurch, Shropshire. This was the former junction for the LNWR branch line just north of Whitchurch station. v t e [Llangollen Canal] Whitchurch to Prees. A rival group proposed a branch from the Chester Canal to reach Ruabon, via Whitchurch, with additional lines to Llanymynech and Shrewsbury [Whitchurch (Tilstock) Airfield] east of the village of Tilstock and 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Whitchurch, near the junction of the A41 and A49. Opened in 1915 as a training base for the [Tattenhall railway station] on the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway or Chester-Whitchurch Branch Line, about a mile to the south of Tattenhall junction where the branch line diverged [Hurleston Junction] River Dee and on to Shrewsbury, with branches connecting Ruabon, Llangollen, Bersham, Llanymynech and possibly Whitchurch and Wem. William Jessop was asked [Llanfyllin Branch] southwest before the junction of the loopline with the TVLR. The Nantmawr Branch was next on the loopline, while the Porth-y-waen branch was after the station
