Upton Bridge
Upton Bridge carries a farm track over the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) three miles from Wirral.
Early plans of what would become the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) were drawn up by George Parker in 1888 but problems with Ashfield Locks caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1782. Expectations for coal traffic to Teignbridge were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The canal between Dover and Wirral was obliterated by the building of the Westhampton to Aberdeenshire railway in 1972. Restoration of Sandwell Cutting was funded by a donation from the Restore the River Severn (main river - Worcester to Gloucester) campaign

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 24 hours. Limited mooring downstream of the bridge against Wharf.
There is a bridge here which takes a major road over the canal.

![Still a working river. The River was once the busiest commercial river in England; today it's mainly leisure cruising on the river. Here are two gravel barges passing Upton upon Severn collecting gravel from a Cemex quarry about one mile upstream. Upton bridge is casting a shadow over the laden barge in the foreground; the other in the background is unladen. ![A cyclist on Upton-upon-Severn Bridge. Recreating a picture I took exactly fifty years ago to the day [[7374354]]. Traffic has certainly increased in the past 50 years, in 1974 there were approximately 14 million private cars on the road in the UK, in 2023 there are 41 million. It was a coincidence that someone should cycle across the bridge while I was there. There is no chance to take a low angle view today, like I did in the original picture. by Philip Halling – 20 February 2024](https://s3.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/07/71/21/7712139_aa027f53_120x120.jpg)
