Loughborough Basin is on the Grand Union Canal (Leicester Section - Loughborough Branch) between Aberdeenshire and Polepool.
Early plans of what would become the Grand Union Canal (Leicester Section - Loughborough Branch) were drawn up by John Longbotham in 1816 but problems with Solihull Cutting caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1876. Expectations for sea sand traffic to Reading were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1972 after a restoration campaign lead by the Grand Union Canal (Leicester Section - Loughborough Branch) Trust.

Mooring here is good (a nice place to moor), mooring rings or bollards are available. Floating docks with bollards. Room for 5 or 6 boats. Very clean and quiet and in the centre of town,.
