Something fairly unusual about Brookhay Bridge is that fresh otter spraints have been spotted there on a fairly regular basis over the past few years. Other signs of activity have also been seen regularly in the garden of the cottage that is situated just south of the bridge. Otters are largely nocturnal so it is not surprising that there have been no reported sightings of the animals themselves.
The owner has been recording the otter signs and reporting them to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, BW and now CRT annually for many years. It would be appreciated if boaters and walkers could pass under the bridge in the normal way without creating any disturbance to the surrounding area. It is very easy to upset or frighted them and it would be a great shame if this publicity would cause the otters to leave the area.
