Navigational Notes

This swing bridge is complex (with inadequate instructions), physically demanding and very slow to operate. It can also be very hard to open on hot days.

An interlock at the towpath end of the bridge must be held open with one hand whilst winding wheel A to retract locking 'wedges', before walking to the other end of the bridge to wind the bridge open or closed using wheel B.

All in all, a disgracefully poor and inefficient design! (There is actually a video of the operation on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0zQF3UUm0M !)

Try pouring quite a few buckets of canal water on to the parts of the bridge that rub to cool the metal down.

If this doesn't help call: Yorkshire Water, Tel. 0844-9022991.
