[Sunbury Lock Ait] Sunbury Lock Ait is the ait (island) in the River Thames in England adjacent to Sunbury Lock between Walton-on-Thames, and Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. The island is linked to the eastern part of the developed riverside of Sunbury on the left, 'Middlesex' [Wheatley's Ait] upstream part. This northern part links to Sunbury Lock Ait by a private footbridge across Sunbury Weir which is closed to the public. The upstream part [Sunbury-on-Thames] the Environment Agency, connects the downstream end of the island to Sunbury Lock Ait, which is almost uninhabited, and is within the modern parish bounds [Islands in the River Thames] is common across England and Scotland and cognate with ait and meaning island, a term – as ait or eyot – unusually well-preserved on the Thames. A small [Rivermead Island] Path — from here the point of Sunbury Lock Island can be seen. It is connected to the bank by an elegant arched footbridge with simple metal balustrades [River Thames] paddlers are catered for at weirs like those at Hurley Lock, Sunbury Lock and Boulter's Lock.
