Traveling between Newark and Jersey City, the roadway crosses the Passaic [New Jersey Turnpike] direct bypass southeast of Philadelphia for long distance travelers between New York City and Washington, D.C. According to the International Bridge, Tunnel [U.S. Route 1] 1932 with the opening of the Pulaski Skyway, and a bypass of Bangor involving the Waldo-Hancock Bridge, opened in 1931.
