![Remains of the Griff canal arm, Coventry Canal. This arm of the canal, sometimes known as the Griff Hollows Canal, served the collieries at Griff, south of Nuneaton. It was filled in around 1979; see the Our Warwickshire site on the Griff collieries https://www.ourwarwickshire.org.uk/content/article/griff-no-4-colliery and the canal arm https://www.ourwarwickshire.org.uk/content/catalogue_wow/nuneaton-coventry-canal-griff-arm , also [[[7697190]]]. The silted-up, overgrown stub of the canal arm can be seen in the foreground. by A J Paxton – 27 January 2024](https://s3.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/07/69/74/7697415_8c6b1da8_120x120.jpg)

![Turnover Bridge, Coventry Canal . This is bridge no. 18 on the Coventry Canal, on the south side of Nuneaton. A turnover bridge enabled horses to cross the canal from one towpath to the other without being unhitched from the barges they were pulling. There is no towpath on the other side now, just a narrow muddy path, but the facility would have been needed for deliveries to and from the Griff Hollows Canal a little to the north, a short arm, now filled in, which had wharves serving Griff Colliery (see Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbury_Canals ).See [[[5719568]]], also [[[7528182]]], which depicts some of the changes taking place in the neighbourhood, which include the building of the Baytree business park where Faultlands Farm once stood and also new housing. A foot and cycle path is now being constructed across the bridge. by A J Paxton – 30 March 2023](https://s2.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/07/69/71/7697190_47f614c3_120x120.jpg)

![Coventry Canal: Bridge Number 18: Turn Over Bridge. The towpath runs down the east side of the canal here, so when the Griff Arm was completed, extending away westwards, a turn over bridge was necessary to enable horses to cross the main canal for working along the arm. The arm has long since been abandoned, and its start [[3148729]] is some 200 metres away around the distant corner, so the purpose of the turn over bridge is not immediately apparent. by Nigel Cox – 11 September 2012](https://s1.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/03/14/87/3148781_2b050a75_120x120.jpg)

![Ordnance Survey flush bracket no. 777 on Turn Over Bridge. This Ordnance Survey flush bracket was established in 1913 during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 305.7900 feet [93.2048 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Warwick to Nuneaton levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on S. face of Turn Over Bridge. by Shantavira – 28 September 2013](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/03/67/57/3675768_b0c921d0_120x120.jpg)
