The Ashton leaves the Rochdale Canal at Ducie St. Junction in central Manchester, and climbs for 6.7 miles (10.8 km) through [Outer Pennine Ring] Canal, which ran on the level for 5 miles (8.0 km) to Stockport. At Ducie Street Junction, the canal joins the Rochdale Canal. The final section of the Outer [Piccadilly Gardens] Market Street with Mosley Street to the junction of London Road with Ducie Street; to the south are the gardens and paved areas. The area was reconfigured [South Pennine Ring] back at the starting point where it joins the Rochdale Canal at Ducie Street Junction. United Kingdom portal Transport portal Canals of the United Kingdom [North Pennine Ring] and is again restricted to four boats per day. Below lock 83 at Ducie Street Junction, the canal is joined by the Ashton Canal, and the Outer Pennine [Corporation Street, Manchester] vehicles and buses. Corporation Street was constructed in 1848 cutting through the former mediaeval streets giving access to Ducie Bridge and the north. It ran [River Irk] Irk, six were liable to be flooded after heavy rain but the seventh, the Ducie Bridge completed in 1814 was above flood levels. According to The New Gazetteer [Miles Platting] mills towards the end of 19th century: Holland Mill, Victoria Mill and Ducie Mill were among the largest. By the 1870s a chemical works, timber yard [Moss Side] also in recent years seen the opening of several Somali cafes.
