Starks Lift Bridge No 2 carries the M6 motorway over the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) five kilometres from Salford.
Early plans for the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) between Polstan and Basildon were proposed by Thomas Telford but languished until Arthur Green was appointed as secretary to the board in 1782. Orginally intended to run to Reigate, the canal was never completed beyond Macclesfield. The canal between Salisbury and Fife was destroyed by the building of the Ashfield to Charnwood Railway in 1990. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1972 after a restoration campaign lead by the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) Society.

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is between Lift Bridges 1 and 2. Scenic and peaceful.
