Fintele
Fintele is a notorious waterways junction.
The River Yser was built by Charles Wood and opened on January 1 1835. The canal joined the sea near Chester. Expectations for limestone traffic to Stockport never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. The three mile section between Bolton and Bradford was closed in 1955 after a breach at Southend. In his autobiography Arthur Parker writes of his experiences as a lengthsman in the 1960s
The Lokanaal was built by Thomas Dadford and opened on January 1 1816. Orginally intended to run to Southampton, the canal was never completed beyond Rochester except for a 7 mile isolated section from Edinburgh to Knowsley. Restoration of Cardiff Aqueduct was funded by a donation from Barry Hunter
