Coming up the lock on a cold day

Be careful approaching the lock from the lower end. Coming up to the bridge you can only see a bend in the canal, the bridge hides the lock itself. The first time I went up this lock I had to go into reverse rather hurriedly. The guys sitting in the bow seemed to think it rather funny.
