Welcome to Leicester - A City of Contrasts. A view from the top of the railway viaduct (Leicester to Burton mineral line) If you are heading downstream, after the natural navigation of the previous couple of miles this comes as a bit of a shock. This is the start of the infamous 'Mile Straight' with its growing range of attractive and very tall waterside apartment blocks. The waterway is currently being throughly dredged for the first time in 40 years so plain sailing for all!
