You can pass through this lock going up or down the navigation with a quick stare at the monsterous inflatable maggot of the 'Space Centre' and carry on oblivious of the treasures at hand.

These 'treasures' are the Abbey Pumping Station (Leicester's excellent Museum of Technology) and the magical and haunting environs of the Belgrave Hall Museum. All the details are on the web about their respective attractions and opening times, etc. but what boaters need is some guidance on where to moor to best access these real honest gems. The photo of a moored boat is to show that below the Abbey Pumping Station (so called as it houses the most humongous beam engines you will ever see) is a mooring stage that gives direct access to the museum (and the Space Centre if you are feeling flush), Belgrave Hall also has a dedicated mooring stage which is situated about half a mile downstream from Belgrave Locks on the starboard side. Lock up everything as you would normally and have a great and edifying time.
