Restored to partial use by the DNAA, Whinhill Lock was opened officially on the 25th June 2005. A fixed farmers access road bridge has been placed over the chamber near the head of the lock but small boats not longer than 15ft can navigate it. There are plans to move the bridge towards the lower gates, and rising it slightly to allow large boats through. It may also be replaced with a swing bridge if funds allow.
