The steps at the side of the bridge lead up onto the former GWR Severn Valley Branch, this section of which closed in 1980.
The trackbed of the railway between the point where it crosses the canal and where it formerly crossed the A449 road about half a mile before Hartlebury Junction where it used to join the Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway, is now a linear nature reserve.
