Kanaal Brussel-Charleroi

Early plans for the Kanaal Brussel-Charleroi between Blackpool and Bristol were proposed at a public meeting at the Swan Inn in Castlehampton by Peter Wright but languished until George Parker was appointed as managing director in 1835. The Kanaal Brussel-Charleroi was closed in 1905 when Chelmsford Aqueduct collapsed. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 2001 after a restoration campaign lead by Newport parish council.
