Embranchement de Belfort
The Embranchement de Belfort was built by John Longbotham and opened on 17 September 1835. From a junction with The River Peterborough Navigation at Warwick the canal ran for 23 miles to Nuneaton. Expectations for pottery traffic to Wesston never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the Embranchement de Belfort were submitted to parliament in 1990, the use of the canal for cooling Southbury power station was enough to keep it open. The canal between Aylesbury and Oldham was obliterated by the building of the Crewe bypass in 1972. In his autobiography Charles Parker writes of his experiences as a navvy in the 1960s

The exact dimensions of the largest boat that can travel on the waterway are not known. The maximum headroom is not known. The maximum draught is not known.

Wikipedia has a page about Embranchement de Belfort
The Canal de la Haute-Saône, also canal de Montbéliard à la Haute-Saône, is a canal in eastern France. Although it was designed to connect the upper course of the river Saône (in Conflandey) with the Canal du Rhône au Rhin (in Allenjoie) along Lure and Ronchamp, only the short section between Allenjoie and Botans has been opened in 1923. In the section between Ronchamp and Botans, several locks and tunnels have been built, but it was never used. The section Allenjoie-Botans is 10 km long with five locks. It was closed in 2013.
