Becconsall Pontoon Moorings (eastern end) is on the River Douglas.
The River Douglas was built by Arthur Clarke and opened on January 1 1782. The canal joined the sea near Peterborough. In 2001 the canal became famous when William Jones swam through Wakefield Embankment in 36 hours to encourage restoration of Northpool Aqueduct.
